“Go go go, stay tough, don’t be impacted by it, keep moving!”
We were inspired by a Huffington Post article last month that highlighted “Code Lavender”, a hospital program responding to stressed patients, family members, and now employees.
This program is implemented at the top-rated Cleveland Clinic and helps nurses, physicians, and other staff members cope with the ongoing stress of working with patients and families in trauma. Employees report feeling supported and sustained by their workplace.
Your work environment may not include the life-altering stressors that Cleveland Clinic employees face every day, but spending 40+ hours on the job certainly takes a toll. 8 out of 10 Americans report work-related stress, whether from workload, commuting, or relationships. Increasingly, workplaces are focusing on being mindful to ease stress, create focus, and build positive relationships among employees. Long-term exposure to stressful environments proves unsustainable, often leading to employee burnout.
At Studio 9-to-5, we’re a bit biased, but we believe yoga is the perfect addition to any workday to prevent burnout and boost focus and dedication. Yoga offers an opportunity to recenter, rejuvenate, and relax amidst heavy deadlines. It teaches practitioners to focus on breath, body, and mind and to apply this intrinsic knowledge to stay focused and productive rather than stressed and distracted throughout the day.
