8 Behaviors of Successful People

Forbes.com recently published an inspiring article titled “Successful People: The 8 Self-Limiting Behaviors They Avoid.” It reminded us of lessons from the yoga mat, where many of these self-limiting behaviors can be overcome through consistent practice. This week and next, we’ll explore these behaviors and how yoga can turn them on their heads (literally, in some cases!).

“Below the Line” vs. “Above the Line” Thinking

Yoga challenges both the body and the mind by placing practitioners in physically demanding situations—finding balance, strength, or breath—sometimes with limbs in unusual positions or even upside down. The only way through the posture is by using your own strength and ingenuity. It may take time and practice, but eventually, YOU explore YOUR body to find a solution that works for YOU.

This shift takes practitioners from “Below the Line” thinking—where external obstacles seem to block progress—into “Above the Line” thinking, which empowers them to take accountability for their actions, outcomes, and mindset both on and off the mat.
